In 2021 a Historic Oak Tree in State College came down, and we were lucky enough to get a branch from this tree. I cut the branch into slabs with a chainsaw and then used a CNC router to flatten them. Being end grain, we decided to follow in the philosophy of George Nakashima, and allow the crack to be part of the natural art. We cut butterfly keys out of walnut and inlayed them over the structural cracks.
